To use the Wireless BroadBand Service on your
computer(s) you will need at least an Ethernet
card installed (this is either a seperate card which
has a single phone type connection with a flashing green
light or is an integral feature of your computer). You
should look through the documentation supplied with
your computer to see if it has 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet
(RJ-45 Connection) or similar installed. The Ethernet
connection is used to access the client adapter supplied
during the installation.
Most Apple iMac, G5, eMac, iBook, PowerBook
and G4 computers are equipped with an Ethernet connection
or can be attached to one via an Airport connection.
Most new PC's come with an Ethernet connection
built into the motherboard or have an Ethernet card
installed in a PCI slot. If you are unsure if your Windows
based PC has an Ethernet card fitted go to Start >
Settings > Control Panel > System : Select Hardware
/ Device Manager. If you have a card installed or an
active network connection it will tell you under the
"Network adapters" when you double click on
it.
Ethernet cards are available from a wide
range of computer stores (online and retail outlets)
from under £20.
If you are using the computers in an established
network you may need a router
or WiFi
router to connect to the client adapter. During
the online application, you will be asked if you require
either of these.
